The Return

The return

I’m back in the studio recording songs I’ve been writing and co-writing for what seems like a millennia.

We had every intention of being here sooner.

The stars weren’t in alignment, for a while there, it felt like there were no stars in the sky at all.

They were there though. Sparkling away.

They weren’t the ones who had deserted.

Life does what it does, and we do what we do. It’s a thing that happens, and if you’ve been reading my blogs for a while, you’ve seen the missteps and the doubt turn up before.

They are my companions, persistent, disruptive and strangely instructive, if I take the time to listen.

Thankfully, the desire to have my creations and co-creations brought to life wins out.

Walking back into the studio is a terrifying and joyful experience.  Closing the sound booth door brings a sense of commitment, a full circle moment of allowing the songs I’ve carried for so long into the light.

Every version of me is present, all my thoughts and feelings laid bare by a word or the crack of heartbreak in a phrase.

Seeing words and music set free in the hearts and hands of others to become something else is wondrous.

And, always, always a study in humility.
