Human-Made

I’m releasing human-made music right now in a world where almost half of what’s getting uploaded isn’t made by a human at all. It’s disheartening. An inner conversation about adding more noise to the noise. And in a time when the top 1% of artists account for 90% of the streaming revenue and many tracks get less than 100 spins, it’s a inner conversation that doesn’t end.

And still I write.

Every song pulled painstakingly from lived experience.

Recorded live with each real musician adding their part.

Seems like a thing I didn’t have to say even 2 years ago.  Real Musician.

When we recorded, we decided to put cello on almost half of the tunes. Someone asked why I wasn’t just using AI. Well, for one, that person clearly doesn’t know me at all.

And secondly, I wanted some humanity poured into that cello, some roughness and beauty and an interpretation of the words and music that came from somewhere inside.

It’s sad to be writing this.

Because creating is what we do. It makes things make sense.

It still matters.

And it still matters.
