My music career is a creative outlet, a labour of love, a way of putting my life in order, a requirement as important as breathing.

It’s also a job creator.

Every time I send an e-transfer to a studio, a musician, a producer, engineer, videographer, chef, venue, photographer, I am reminded that my art fuels more than my own dreams and experiences. 

It puts food on someone’s table, keeps the lights on, and pays for new instruments.

That realization shifted the way I think about my music

It’s music, for sure, I put my soul out there for the listening.  And it’s so much more.

It keeps creatives across many industries working in their crafts; it builds community and conversation.  It circulates money back into the creative economy. At the heart of any project I embark upon are real humans, real lives, real experiences, real contributions.

I’ve joked (joking, not joking) that the only people making money in my music career are the people I hire.

I am officially ok with that.

I am officially proud of it.

Streaming does not pay the bills for many of us artists, and if money or fame was the only reason for creating, performing and recording new music I would have stopped after album number 1. 

I’m not stopping anytime soon.

I've more than made peace with standing at the intersection between music and the creative economy. My songs touch hearts, and my e-transfers keep the lights on.
